21st century is said to be the century of water. In Europe, there is a serious discussion of how to secure water. In Japan, thanks to the high rainfall, securing water may not sound familiar, but in some regions you can find "save the water" slogan everywhere you go. There is a fear of having a war over the possession of water within this century, and we no longer have any room to ruin water resource by pollution. However, when we use chemicals on farmland, they will eventually reach the groundwater. Using ground water for our drink and other activities, we cannot live if the groundwater is polluted. If you think it is fine because we are already disinfecting water, consider the earth as a closed container. Water goes through as a cycle in this closed container, and the more we pollute, the dirtier water we get next time. We need much time and energy to restore the clean water again. Organic farming is one of the must-doﾕs in order to protect water: the essential for our life.

So, what is organic farming?

Fist of all, you must not give plants nutrition directly. Let plants draw nutrition from the ground by themselves. It means to grow plants naturally with natural state of soil.
Secondly, you cannot use ﾒdangerous chemicalsﾓ on organic farms. We only avoid "dangerous" chemicals because we do not deny all artificial devices. While there is natural farming which does not cultivate the soil or use anything from outside, people have used fertilizers such as oil meal and sardines from their experiences since Yayoi era. ﾒDangerous chemicalsﾓ are ones that are invented during 20th century for todayﾕs chemical agriculture, and organic agriculture do not use those.
Finally, organic agriculture do not allow genetic manipulation. Genetic manipulation has been gotten a lot of attentions as anticancer drugs and would be fine if it is studied within closed laboratories. However, farmland is large and there have not been any result when we use this technology in the long term. It could bring the result that we could not live on the earth anymore. Therefore, organic farming do not use the genetic manipulations
The organic farming is required these three things above.
